Walk from Pythagorio up the mountain to the Ancient Theater and the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani. Legend has it that the antique icon of Virgin Mary, that I show you in this video, was once stolen and the thieves intended to take the icon to their home by boat. The icon did not want to leave the island of Samos and fell into the sea, broken in pieces. Locals found the pieces of the icon on the beach, put them back together and brought the icon back to its place in the Monastery. This is why the Monastery is also called "Monastery of kaliarmenissa": the good traveller, as it found its way back to Samos floating in the sea. The icon is missing all colors due to this ordeal, and the cracks are still visible.
